In the United States this week, Arevon Energy and Matrix Renewables have commenced construction on two solar projects located in Indiana and Texas. Meanwhile, inverter manufacturer Ingeteam has provided 1GW of inverters for three solar projects in the US.
Arevon begins construction at 192MW Indiana project
Arevon Energy, a renewable energy developer and operator in the US, has initiated construction at its 192MW Ratts 1 solar project near Petersburg in Pike County, Indiana. Although construction was originally scheduled to commence in late 2023, the company conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on August 21 last week and anticipates completing the project by 2025.
Earlier this month, Arevon began construction on the 60MW Heirloom project, also located in Pike County. Together, the two projects in the county represent a total investment of nearly $400 million. Additionally, the developer has entered into an agreement with technology giant Meta to sell environmental attributes—such as credits and other indirect products generated from renewable energy—produced by the Heirloom project.
Likewise, construction commenced on the 228MW Posey Solar Project in Indiana in May by the developer. Once finished, the regional utility CenterPoint will assume ownership and operation of the project.
“We are enthusiastic about the economic growth that Ratts 1 Solar will bring to our community,” expressed Ashley Willis, the executive director at the Pike County Economic Development Corporation. “We have witnessed the substantial impact this project has already made through the creation of new jobs and increased local expenditures. We eagerly anticipate observing how it will shape Pike County in the coming decades.”
Matrix breaks ground on 284MW Texas plant
In the meantime, Matrix Renewables, a Spanish developer, along with SOLV Energy, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for their Stillhouse solar project in Rogers, Texas. This project has an impressive capacity of 284MW.
The ceremony took place earlier this month, on August 15, with the companies anticipating the project’s commissioning in the second half of the upcoming year. The project’s total investment stands at $370 million. In May, they signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Korean automaker Hyundai to sell the power generated by the project.
SOLV Energy CEO George Hershman stated, “Renewables are a significant and expanding source of tax revenue for communities and income for landowners in Texas. This project will provide more Texans with access to reliable power during periods of high demand, lower electric bills, and increased job opportunities.”
Matrix’s portfolio pipeline in the United States comprises approximately 7GW of renewable energy capacity, constituting roughly half of its total global pipeline. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), developers are projected to introduce 50.5GW of new solar capacity in Texas alone over the next five years, surpassing any other state.
Ingeteam supplies 1GW of inverters to Acconia Energía projects
Ingeteam, a Spanish inverter manufacturer, has further expanded its presence in the US solar sector. The company has supplied 1GW of its inverters to Acciona Energía, a fellow Spanish renewable energy developer, for three solar PV projects in the United States.
Recently, two projects were commissioned in Texas, featuring generation capacities of 317MW and 458MW, respectively. Additionally, a third site with a 325MW capacity is nearing final commissioning in Ohio. Ingeteam provided a total of 440 central inverters and Power Plant Control systems for these three sites.
In May of this year, the 458MW Texas site known as Red-Tailed Hawk was commissioned. Acciona Energía acquired this site from a consortium that included Avondale Solar and Solar Plus Development back in February 2022.
In November 2023, Acciona Energía entered into two solar module supply agreements with the Indian solar manufacturer Waaree. These agreements covered both the high-efficiency tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) modules and the passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) modules. As part of the deal, Acciona deployed the PERC modules at various US PV sites, including Red-Tailed Hawk. The TOPCon panels will be installed at sites currently under construction between 2024 and 2026.
Ingeteam has stated that it has supplied approximately 5GW of inverter products to the United States so far, with a focus on large-scale solar PV and energy storage installations ranging from 100MW to 500MW in size.
