Tata Power commissions India’s ‘largest’ floating PV plant

Indian developer Tata Power Renewable Energy has commissioned a 126MW floating solar (FPV) plant in India.

Situated in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project is positioned between two significant reservoirs. The project incorporates engineering solutions such as wave breaker systems and sturdy mooring to address environmental obstacles.

In 2022, the state-owned company NHDC awarded this project, which consists of 213,460 modules.

The company claims that it is the largest operational FPV project in India, exceeding another project by Tata Power in size. Additionally, in 2022, the company launched a 101.6MW FPV project in the southern state of Kerala.

China completes 1GW open sea floating PV project

Discussing the largest floating solar projects, in the adjacent nation of China, a 1GW open sea floating PV project was finalized earlier this week. State-owned China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy) recently linked the project to the grid, asserting it to be the “world’s first and largest of its kind.”

The floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant is located approximately 8km off the shore of Dongying City, on the eastern coastline of China, near the Bohai Sea.

As more and larger floating photovoltaic (FPV) projects are initiated, the technology is advancing. PV Tech Premium examined the most recent technological enhancements that have propelled the market’s expansion last year.
