Maxeon Solar Technologies has enhanced and refurbished a manufacturing facility in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, with an investment totaling approximately $70 million. As the leading solar panel producer in Mexico, Maxeon’s cumulative investment in solar manufacturing within the country now exceeds $260 million. The company manufactures its shingled-cell Performance line solar panels in Mexicali.
This expansion signifies a rise in the company’s installed production capacity to 1.8 GW/year, positioning the Mexicali plant as one of the largest solar panel manufacturing facilities in the Americas.
This significant achievement is a testament to the diligent efforts and commitment of the entire Maxeon team,” stated Bill Mulligan, CEO of Maxeon. “Baja California has played and will continue to play an increasingly significant role in fulfilling the rising demand for our products in North America and globally in the years ahead.”
Maxeon also possesses a second manufacturing facility in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Together, these two plants boast a collective production capacity exceeding 2.5 GW/year and employ over 2,000 workers.
Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda expressed that the principles upheld by Maxeon Solar Technologies align with those of the State Government, which prioritize environmental conservation and the reduction of harmful emissions in line with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. She underscored the significance of ongoing innovative initiatives entering Baja California, leading to job creation, improved welfare, and solutions for the state’s residents.
