Estonian energy firm Evecon and French asset manager Mirova have successfully achieved operational status at a 77.53MW solar park in Estonia.
The companies referred to it as the ‘largest’ solar park in the Baltics, boasting twice the capacity of the previous largest operational solar PV plant in Estonia.
Situated in Pärnu County, in southwest Estonia, the Kirikmäe solar park is under the ownership of the Baltic Renewable Energy Platform (BREP), a collaborative venture established in 2022 by Evecon and Mirova. Through this partnership, BREP is committed to funding, constructing, and managing a collection of over 100MWp of solar PV projects in Estonia.
The project, overseen by the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor Wiso Engineering, commenced in April and reached completion within six months. A grand total of 117,600 solar panels were set up at the Kirikmäe solar park, all supplied by the solar manufacturer Canadian Solar.
“The establishment of the Kirikmäe solar park marks a significant milestone for the Baltic region, given the size of the facility and the magnitude of the investment involved. Together with the recently unveiled Imavere and Lohu mets solar parks by Evecon and Mirova, over 100 MW of production capacity will be introduced to the local market within a single week.”
Karl Kull, CEO of Evecon, noted, “This accounts for approximately ten percent of Estonia’s existing solar capacity.”
Evecon has established multiple partnerships to enhance its renewable energy portfolio in the Baltic region. In a recent collaboration, the Estonian company joined forces with the clean energy investment firm Niam Infrastructure to construct an 84MW solar-plus-storage portfolio in Latvia earlier this year.
The portfolio will be implemented in two stages. The initial phase involves constructing 40MW of solar PV spread across six locations, with a target for completion by the conclusion of March 2025. The subsequent phase, totaling 44MW, is slated to commence construction before the end of 2025. Alongside the solar PV installations, Evecon will also develop 26MW of battery energy storage systems at the project sites.
