Belectric begins building 114MW Encavis German PV plant

The construction of a 114MW solar project in Mecklenburg, located in northeastern Germany, has commenced by the German engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company Belectric.

Situated in the Borrentin municipality, this site is under the ownership of independent power producer (IPP) Encavis and is set to accommodate approximately 200,000 solar PV module installed by Belectric. Additionally, Belectric will be responsible for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the site.

Belectric has stated that the Borrentin project is being developed on land with a low agricultural rating that would have had limited agricultural utility otherwise. The land holds an agricultural rating of 27.26, falling below the minimum grading of 40 required for classification as ‘good’ agricultural land.

Mario Schirru, the CIO/COO at Encavis, the site’s owner, expressed, “In collaboration with Belectric, we are bringing to life our largest solar project in Germany at Borrentin. Upon its anticipated completion soon, our combined generating capacity in Germany will rise to 677MW (comprising 265MW from wind and 412MW from solar).”

Over the past six months, Encavis has been actively involved in the German market. Just recently, Encavis disclosed the initiation of construction for a 260MW solar PV facility north of Berlin, Germany, which is scheduled to occur in two phases.

In September, the company also entered into a framework agreement with PV developer Innovar Solar to construct nine solar PV projects in Germany, collectively amounting to a capacity of 160MW.
