Transgrid, the Australian transmission system operator, has indicated in a recent report that remote inland Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) could offer supplementary renewable energy sources by the mid-2030s, pinpointing western New South Wales (NSW) as a region with promising potential.

In this year’s Transmission Planning Annual Report (TAPR) by Transgrid, it is highlighted that the western region of NSW possesses “exceptional” solar and wind resources on underutilized, sparsely populated land. Establishing smaller-scale remote Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) could facilitate an increase in renewable energy generation and enhance grid balancing services.
