Renewable Properties has partnered with Black & Veatch, a renowned global engineering and construction firm, to develop the inaugural EV charging station on recently acquired land in Vacaville, California. Situated in the Bay Area, a prominent transportation and distribution hub for renowned retail brands, this location holds strategic significance.
The first charging station will serve as a blueprint for future private charging depots dedicated to medium and heavy-duty electric truck and bus fleets along the West Coast. By collaborating with Black & Veatch, Renewable Properties aims to set a high standard for the deployment of these charging facilities, ensuring their effectiveness and scalability.
This pioneering initiative in Vacaville showcases Renewable Properties’ commitment to advancing sustainable transportation and supporting the transition to electric-powered fleets. Through their partnership with Black & Veatch, they are poised to establish a network of charging depots that will facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the medium and heavy-duty sectors, contributing to a cleaner and greener future.
“Black & Veatch remains at the forefront of driving the global shift towards electric vehicles, and we are delighted to collaborate with Renewable Properties on their innovative new service,” stated Randal Kaufman, the Sales Director at Black & Veatch. Recognized as a prominent player in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, Black & Veatch combines critical elements of EV charging, distributed generation, and high-power delivery infrastructure to ensure the seamless progress of EV projects.
With their expertise in these key areas, Black & Veatch plays a pivotal role in facilitating the development of efficient and reliable EV charging solutions. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices, they contribute to the continuous advancement of the electric vehicle ecosystem.
Through their partnership with Renewable Properties, Black & Veatch reaffirms their commitment to driving the transition towards sustainable transportation. By leveraging their collective strengths, they enable the realization of robust EV projects that are essential for a greener and more sustainable future.
Renewable Properties will provide charging services at their depots through a charging-as-a-service arrangement, akin to a power purchase agreement (PPA). This innovative model eliminates any initial expenses for fleet owners and operators. Under this agreement, Renewable Properties will handle the site selection, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of the enclosed depots. Customers will solely be responsible for paying for the kilowatt-hours consumed during the charging process.
The charging depots will be equipped with dedicated electrical capacity, secure yards, vehicle storage, and EV chargers that are compatible with a wide range of EV truck brands. This comprehensive infrastructure ensures a seamless and efficient charging experience for fleet owners and operators.
By adopting this charging-as-a-service approach, Renewable Properties aims to remove financial barriers and simplify the transition to electric fleets. This customer-centric solution not only promotes the widespread adoption of electric vehicles but also facilitates the development of a sustainable and cost-effective transportation ecosystem.
Starting from January 1, California businesses are obligated to adhere to the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) Regulation implemented by the state. The ACF Regulation outlines a phased approach to transitioning to electric vehicle (EV) fleets, mandating fleet operators with revenue surpassing $50 million or controlling more than 50 trucks to initiate the electrification process. This requirement encompasses various fleet owners, such as retail brands with warehousing and distribution centers, public entities (including municipalities, tribal governments, state governments, county governments, public schools, colleges, and universities), as well as owners of drayage truck fleets responsible for transporting cargo to and from California’s seaports and rail yards.
By enforcing this regulation, California aims to accelerate the adoption of clean and sustainable transportation solutions, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. The ACF Regulation ensures that influential fleet operators across different sectors actively participate in the transition to EV fleets, fostering a greener and more environmentally conscious business landscape.
As entities are now required to meet targets for electrifying their fleet vehicles, the demand for EV fleet charging is expected to surge. However, there are currently limited options available to fulfill this need. Renewable Properties’ innovative service aims to address this gap in EV fleet charging, not only in California but also in other states that are establishing fleet electrification goals.
By offering their comprehensive charging solution, Renewable Properties will play a crucial role in meeting the increasing demand for EV fleet charging infrastructure. Their service will support the transition to electric fleets, enabling entities to achieve their fleet electrification targets effectively and efficiently. Through their commitment to providing reliable and accessible charging solutions, Renewable Properties will contribute to the advancement of sustainable transportation in California and beyond.
